Vivier Pilgrim Flats found
A little while ago I expressed my admiration for Catherine Deneuve's style in "Belle de Jour" (and for her overall style regardless of the movie)--and blogged lustfully about the Roger Vivier "pilgrim" shoes she so elegantly wore in that movie. A reader of this blog asked me where he could get them (for his wife, natch!), and all I had at the time was eBay. No more! Bluefly has a whole range of the famous pilgrim flats, in a variety of heel heights and materials: suede, patent, leather, silk; flat, 2" heel, 3" heel, you name it! Even on sale they still spell financial ruin (range: $364-$506), but aren't they gorgeous?

Scarpe, I love you! I was a little rattled over the whole purple-shoe project of yours, but my faith has been restored! These are gorgeous. Now, the dilemma (you can't see this coming, I'm sure): how to buy or order them, sight unseen by the missus, while somehow avoiding that ugly conversation about their price. Hmm.... well, if nothing else, I'll show them to her and maybe she'll gush. Thanks!

I find it hard to believe that she would protest your buying such exquisite shoes--which will last a lifetime, may I add. In my household, we have separate credit cards, and we rarely check each other's purchases, and I find life is much less complicated this way. You may also arrange something by calling directly the Bluefly representatives (on the phone)--who knows! At any rate, your wife should consider herself lucky to have a husband willing to buy her Roger Vivier shoes--the price becomes irrelevant at this point...

Hey Scarpe, as much as I love my wife, and love seeing her in great shoes, I cannot possibly manage these, even at the bluefly "discount." At the risk of seeming like a dirtball, what I seek is a similar but DIFFERENT shoe (and cheaper, too). I am hopeful that fall will bring a crop of similarly-inspired styles. I just saw today, for example, the BCBGirls "Eric" which is so inspired but, oddly enough, TOO CHEAP LOOKING! I am sure tough to please!
Tom--here's a Tapeet by Vicini: http://couture.zappos.com/n/p/dp/7569494/c/95.html, which certainly doesn't look cheap and is currently on sale at Zappos--but only limited sizes available. It makes a fine pilgrim flat, in my opinion. Otherwise, keep looking on eBay, you may find something reasonably priced there!
